Esta investigación busca poner en valor la identidad cultural de un territorio sostenido por mujeres campesinas, en una dimensión espacial con perspectiva de género que ha sido invisibilizada, y cuya conservación y puesta en valor resguarda una enorme potencialidad para el desarrollo territorial rural con identidad cultural.
El proyecto busca generar un impacto en el rescate patrimonial asociado a la puesta en valor de la mujer como protagonista en la creación del paisaje cultural tradicional de Chiloé más allá de los saberes agrícolas, intentando visibilizar su rol en el diseño predial de los conjuntos rurales del siglo XX que determina la identidad de un territorio, y cuyos conocimientos son transmitidos y conservados de manera transgeneracional como una herencia cultural, siendo esta una manifestación invisibilizada del patrimonio inmaterial del territorio. "En España actualmente, más se desviste a las regiones, más se visten..." (FERRAS, 1988). Esa frase un poco insólita ilustra sin embargo perfectamente lo que hemos intentado demostrar en el caso de Chiloé: la modernización en curso en muchos de los países del mundo borra poco a poco casi todos los atributos con los cuales aparecían las regiones geográficas clásicas. Esa dinámica se observa en Chile a partir de 1974, y la desarticulación de las regiones, la homogeneización de las culturas, el "desvestir" regional para resumir en una palabra esta desregionalización, han sido fenómenos muy rápidos y muy marcados. Pero, por una contradicción lógica, esta amenaza de pérdida de identidad y de destrucción de las bases de una realidad regional, aparece como un factor poderoso para estimular fuerzas de reactivación de esta identidad: ¿Se va ha poder "vestir" nuevamente la región de Chiloé? Las herencias que tiene que manejar son tan pesadas como contradictorias... (Conclusión)

Las aldeas de Chiloé nacieron a lo largo de los siglos XVII y XVIII como consecuencia de la actividad misional: su origen fue un espacio abierto y una playa, donde se congregaba la feligresía cuando llegaba el padre. Desde que el misionero comenzó a celebrar los oficios religiosos, el espacio adquirió el carácter sagrado - cristiano, y se hizo mucho más patente cuando se materializó en la construcción física de un templo o capilla, en cuyo interior y exterior se congregaba la población del lugar al llamado del misionero. Este fue el origen de las aldeas chilotas, singular en el contexto colonial chileno e hispanoamericano, en que la vida urbana se estructuró en aldeas o pueblos de nacimiento espontáneo, o en villas o ciudades erigidas formalmente, con acto fundacional y acta de fundación.
