Solamente al llegar a los mares de Carelmapu, Chiloé y los canales al sur de esta isla, encontramos una embarcación a la que se puede dar el nombre de bote. Dicha embarcación se construía de tablones, toscamente labrados con hachas de piedra y unidos por costuras hechas con cordeles de fibra vegetal. Semejante bote no se conocía en otra parte de América, a excepción de las islas de Santa Bárbara, en la costa de California meridional. En la actualidad ha desaparecido de las dos regiones y ha sido reemplazado por botes de estilo europeo.
