La publicación de este libro es un gran aporte a la comunidad que cada día siente mayor preocupación por la mantención del medioambiente, en especial por la conservación de nuestras especies nativas. Del mismo modo, existe una creciente preocupación por parte del Estado en establecer medidas efectivas con el objeto de revertir algunos de los procesos degradativos que están provocando la pérdida de la biodiversidad. Para respaldar estas medidas, instituciones como la Universidad Austral de Chile constituyen un apoyo fundamental para el Gobierno, mediante la colaboración con aquellas instancias responsables de velar por el cuidado del medioambiente, llevando a cabo las investigaciones necesarias que conduzcan a una mejor comprensión y cuidado de la biodiversidad de Chile.
Los resultados de estas investigaciones deben ser fácilmente accesibles para quienes deseen obtener dicha información, de tal modo que se difundan adecuadamente estos importantes estudios. En este sentido, el presente libro titulado “Plantas Amenazadas del Centro-Sur de Chile” representa un significativo aporte a la educación respecto a la flora nativa de nuestro país. Es motivo de orgullo y satisfacción el destacado papel que desarrolla la Universidad Austral de Chile en la producción de este libro y agradecemos especialmente al Real Jardín Botánico de Edimburgo por su constante apoyo a investigadores del Instituto de Silvicultura de la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales de nuestra casa de estudios. Este módulo, dirigido a niños y niñas de 5º y 6º de Enseñanza General Básica, trata sobre la importancia y necesidad de conservación del Bosque Templado Valdiviano haciendo uso de lecturas dirigidas. Estas lecturas, a su vez, son complementadas con la exhibición de un video. Además, se profundiza en los mismos conceptos por medio de juegos y ejercicios digitales interactivos. Los ejercicios pueden ser desarrollados en pizarras digitales o con un data por un curso completo, o bien ser resueltos en forma individual y autónoma por los estudiantes en un computador personal.
